Purple urine bag syndrome: An unusual presentation of urinary tract infection

Introduction: Purple urine bag syndrome is a rare clinical entity characterized by purple discoloration of the urinary catheter and drainage in chronically catheterized patients. Though it can be alarming to patients clinicians, considered benign but indicate an underlying tract infection. Case Series: The first case was 68-year-old woman with multiple comorbidities who admitted orthopedic ward close fracture neck right femur. She bedridden had indwelling urethral catheter. Her noticed stain purplish 22 days after bladder catheterization. Urine culture showed heavy mixed growth. A change led resolution condition. second 58-year-old male on account decompensated liver cirrhosis from chronic hepatitis C virus He also quadriparesis due traumatic cervical spine injury, retention, constipation. On day 24 his admission, stained hue. grew Klebsiella oxytoca. remained clear contained amber-colored changes antibiotic treatment for cystitis. Conclusion: patient caregiver need reassured its nature. would identify any associated Good care, control risk factors including constipation symptomatic infection leads discoloration.
